کروموزوم ۱ (انسان). کروموزوم ۱ انسان، نمایشگر بزرگترین کروموزوم انسان است. مانند در دیگر اتوزوم ها ( کروموزوم های غیر جنسی ) ، انسان ها دارای دو رونوشت از کروموزوم ۱ هستند، که یک کروموزوم غیر جنسی است. کروموزوم ۱ دارای حدود ۲۴۹ میلیون از جفت بازهای نوکلئوتیدی است، که آنها واحدهای اساسی اطلاعات برای دی ان ای هستند. [ ۲] این نشان دهندهٔ حدود ۹ درصد از کل دی ان ای در سلول های انسانی است. [ ۳]
شناسایی ژن ها در هر کروموزوم یک منطقهٔ فعال از بررسی های ژنتیکی است. بر پایهٔ این بررسی ها امروز پژوهش گران بر این باورند که کروموزوم ۱ انسان دارای ۴۳۱۶ ژن است، که بیش از پیش بینی های قبلی است که بر پایهٔ نسبت اندازهٔ این کروموزوم صورت گرفته بود. [ ۲] این آخرین کروموزومی بود که دو دههٔ پس از آغاز پروژه ژنوم انسان تعیین توالی و کامل گردید.
