Why is it "my Lady" but "your Grace, your Majesty, your Higness"?When you address someone as 'my Lady' or 'my Lord', you are saying "you are the person that rules over ME, you are MY master/mistress".

When your term of address is supposedly making reference to a quality of the person you are toadying up to ( majesty, grace, highness, excellency, etc. ) , you use 'your'. It would make no sense to say 'my Grace / my Excellency' because it sounds like you're complimenting yourself instead of the other person.
Most of these terms in English come to us from French, and they are similar in that language. 'Monsieur' and 'Madame' literally mean 'my sire' and 'my lady'. They also use 'votre ( Majest� / Gr�ce / Altesse / Excellence ) '. There are analogies in other languages as well; the Spanish second - person formal pronoun 'Usted' is a contraction of 'vuestra merced' meaning 'your mercy'.
