oscar luigi scalfaro became president of italy in 1992. he was elected mp in 1948. he was minister of transport from 1966 to 1968, and in 1972, of education from 1972 to 1976, and of the interior from 1983 to 1987. he is a member of the christian democrats (dc). born: 1918.
