itzhak rabin became prime minister of israel in 1992. he was chief of staff of israel defence forces from 1964 to 1968 and ambassador to the usa from 1968 to 1973. in 1974 he was elected to the knesset. he was prime minister from 1974 to 1977, and minister of defence from 1984 to 1990. he led the labour party from 1974 to 1977, and was again elected leader in 1992. born: 1922.
