Persuasive writing ( also called argumentative writing ) is writing that tries to convince the reader to agree with the writer’s opinion or take a specific action. The goal is not just to inform but to change minds or motivate behavior.

Key features:
Clear position – The writer states their opinion or claim at the beginning.
Reasons and evidence – The writer supports the claim with facts, examples, statistics, or expert opinions.
Counterarguments – The writer addresses possible objections and explains why they are wrong or less important.
Emotional appeals – The writer may use language that touches the reader’s feelings ( fear, hope, sympathy ) to strengthen the argument.
Call to action – Often ends by asking the reader to do something ( e. g. , vote, buy a product, change a habit ) .
Examples:
An editorial in a newspaper arguing for a new law.
An advertisement trying to sell a product.
A letter to the school principal asking for longer breaks.
An academic essay arguing that climate change is caused by humans.
