daniel t arap moi became president of kenya in 1978, at the death of jomo kenyatta. he is a member of the kenya african national union (kanu). he was elected to the house of representatives in 1961. he served as minister of education from 1961 to 1962, for local government from 1962 to 1964, and for home affairs from 1964 to 1967. he was vice president from 1967 to 1978. born: 1924.
