fran?ois mitterrand became president of france in 1981. he was active in the french resistance in the second world war and served as the deputy for ni?vre in the national assembly from 1946 to 1958 and from 1962 to 1981. he was a member of the socialist party (ps). he was minister of the interior from 1954 to 1955, and for justice from 1956 to 1957. born: 1916.
