• kim young sam was elected president of south korea in 1992 and took office in 1993. he was elected to the national assembly in 1954 and was expelled in 1979, because of his opposition to general park. he was banned from political activity from 1980 to 1985. he was a presidential candidate in 1987, and from 1987 to 1990 was president of the reunification democracy party. in 1990 he merged his party with roh tae woo's ruling party to form the democratic liberal party (dlp). born: 1927.
