hassan ii succeeded his father, mohammed v, as king of morocco in 1961. he was named crown prince in 1957. he served as commander-in-chief of the armed forces from 1956 to 1963, minister of defence and vice premier from 1960 to 1961, as prime minister from 1961 to 1963 and from 1965 to 1967, and as minister of defence from 1972 to 1973. he became commander-in-chief of the army in 1972. born: 1929.
