Back in the late 19th century America, people who wanted to stop drinking joined the temperance movement. They’d say they were “on the water wagon, ” meaning they’d only drink water ( from the wagon that sprinkled streets ) . Later it got shortened to just “on the wagon. ” 🛻💧
