از مهمترین گروه های درون زام می توان به یزیدی ها در شمال عراق، ارمنی ها و ترکمن ها در ایران، یهودیان ارتدوکس، آمیشها در آمریکای شمالی، اعضای کلیسای شاهدان یهوه را نام برد.
درون زامی، نقطهٔ مقابل برون زامی نیست. زیرا، در هر درون زامی، در نهایت برون زامی نیز رعایت می شود؛ برای نمونه: در درون زامی، ممنوعیت ازدواج با بعضی محارم وجود دارد. حتی کوچک ترین، ساده ترین و منزوی ترین جامعه هایی که بنابر مقتضیات جغرافیایی و اقتصادی و اجتماعی به صورت ایل یا قبیلهای واحد به نظر می رسند در واقع مرکب از دو نیمه است، که گزینش همسر برای افراد هر نیمه در درون همان نیمه ممنوع است؛ و هر یک از افراد عضو یکی از نیمه ها، همسرش را باید بیرون از دایره، یعنی در نیمهٔ دیگر جستجو کند. همواره و همه جا به نحوی از انها قاعده و قانونی برای منع ازدواج با برخی نزدیکان وجود دارد.

Endogamy is the practice of marrying within a specific social group, religious denomination, caste, or ethnic group, rejecting those from others as unsuitable for marriage or other close personal relationships.
Endogamy is common in many cultures and ethnic groups. Several religious and ethnic religious groups are traditionally more endogamous, although sometimes with the added dimension of requiring marital religious conversion. This permits an exogamous marriage, as the convert, by accepting the partner's religion, becomes accepted within the endogamous rules. Endogamy, as distinct from consanguinity, may result in transmission of genetic disorders, the so - called founder effect, within the relatively closed community.
