Key features:
Uses adjectives and strong verbs.
Appeals to the five senses: how something looks, sounds, smells, feels, or tastes.
Often includes figurative language like similes ( as quiet as a mouse ) and metaphors ( her voice was music ) .
Focuses on a single subject and paints a detailed image.
Examples:
A paragraph describing a sunset: The sky turned orange and pink, and the cool breeze smelled of rain.
A travel blog entry describing a busy market: The air was thick with the smell of spices, and vendors shouted over the noise of honking rickshaws.
A poem about a favorite place.
