edouard balladur was elected prime minister of france in 1993. he is a member of the rally for the republic (rpr). he was briefly a deputy in the national assembly in 1986, and has served there since 1988. he was a councillor of state from 1984 to 1988, and minister of the economy from 1986 to 1988. born: 1929.
