تفاوت would rather و would prefer:
Note that would rather is followed by a bare infinitive without to, whereas prefer requires to infinitive. Would rather ( but not would prefer to ) is also followed by a past tense when we want to involve other people in the action, even though it has a present or future meaning.

به مثالش توجه کنین. بعد از you از فعل گذشته استفاده شده نه فعل ساده.

تفاوت Would rather و Prefer:
would rather یعنی در این لحظه فلان چیز رو ترجیح میدین
اما
prefer یعنی به طور کلی ( چه الان چه بعدا ) فلان چیز رو ترجیح میدین.

برای بیان همین ساختار ( ترجیح در زمان گذشته ) از ساختار would rather have PP استفاده می کنیم.
I would rather have gone out than stay at home last night.
بعد would ratherب معنای ترجیح دادن اگر فاعل دوجمله یکی حال ساده ولی اگر متفاوت گذشته ی کامل میاید !
